A Dapper Book of the Year

Dapper is as Dapper does

At the recent American Librarian Association’s Annual Conference in New Orleans, ForeWord Reviews announced the winners of their 2010 Book of the Year Awards, and independent comics cleaned up!

Archaia claimed two of the three top spots in the Graphic Novel category with Return of the Dapper Men by Jim McCann and Janet Lee taking home the Gold Award, while Gunnerkrigg Court: Vol. 2: Research by Thomas Siddell nabbed the Bronze!

Beasts of Burden by Evan Dorkin (published by Dark Horse) took home the Silver.  Binky to the Rescue (the sequel to the too cute to believe Binky the Space Cat) by Ashley Spires got an honorable mention.

ForeWord Reviews’ Book of the Year Awards were established to bring increased attention to librarians and booksellers of the literary and graphic achievements of independent publishers and their authors. ForeWord is the only review trade journal devoted exclusively to books from independent houses.

ForeWord’s awards process brings readers, librarians, and booksellers together to select their top categories as well as choose the winning titles. Their decisions are based on editorial excellence, professional production, originality of the narrative, author credentials relative to the book, and the value the book adds to its genre.
