Has there ever been a better time to be in Portland?
August 2nd is shaping up to be an amazing night for comic art aficionados. On this night there are three separate shows featuring five comic book artists. And, given that the downtown area is quite small and walkable, a dedicated individual should be able to see all three shows!
First up is a show featuring the work of Erika Moen (DAR, Bucko), Rebecca Woods (Robin), and Keri Grassl (Paris in the 20th Century) titled “Menage a Trois: Playful, Sexy and Erotic Art by 3 Talented Women in Comics”
There will be complimentary champagne and appetizers as well as tastings from local brewers, distillers and wineries.
When: 6-8pm (after-party from 8pm-2am)
Where: Gallery Sesso
824 SW 1st Ave.
Portland, OR 97204
NOTE: This show is adult in nature (as if you could not tell that by the title!).
Next up is Joelle Jones (You Have Killed Me, Madame Xanadu, Spell Checkers). I was speaking with the owner of the gallery while we were in San Diego. According to him, Joelle is producing new art for this show and it will be different than her comic art.
When: Regular hours are 12:00 – 7:00. but they are open later for First Thursday.
Where: Hellion Gallery
19 NW 5th Ave, suite 204
Portland, Oregon 97209
***2nd floor at the end of the hall, entrance next to Upper Playground***
Last (but not least) is Matt Wagner displaying original art and prints, as well as hosting a book signing. All of this is in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Grendel and the release of the Grendel Omnibus.
When: Thursday, August 2nd, 6-10pm; artwork on display until Aug. 31
Where: Floating World Comics,
400 NW Couch St.
Potland, Oregon 97209
So, there you go. Mark your calendars for August 2nd. Circle your maps, and get yourself to Portland for this amazing night!
