For the past week or so, Imavge/Skybound has been teasing that they are going to do something BIG for the release of the 100th issue of The Walking Dead comic.
Bigger than having fifteen different covers for the issue.
Yesterday they announced the Walking Dead 100 Box set.
The box set includes:
- Custom silkscreened box
- Custom silkscreened print signed and numbered by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard
- The Walking Dead 100 Vannen Watch (edition of 500)
- Secret “Lucille” t-shirt
- The Walking Dead #100 covers (Adlard regular, Ottley, Phillips, Quitely, Hitch, McFarlane, Silvestri, Adlard Chromium)
- Also The Walking Dead #100 Aldard wraparound signed by Kirkman and Adlard.
In honor of issue 100, there will be only 100 of these box sets made available. They will be $250 and will go on sale this Friday, July 6th at 9am PST only atshop.skybound.com.”
However, on the Skybound website, the response was less than enthusiastic.
“Fuck that’s a lot of money”
“Looks great but way out of my price range. Pay rent or buy this? Maybe Kirkman should start thinking about those of us who actually have to work for aliving and not the flash-in-the-panners who will scoop these all up, cherry pick the items and sell them on Ebay.”
“$250 is a bit steep when it doesn’t include all 15 covers, and even then it doesn’t seem like a good deal. As it stands the boxed set would be $150. If the t shirt was limited to only 100 of that design would be another good start . I’m thinking for $250 and 100 copies (hopefully numbered copies) it would also include items exclusive to the box set. I suggest this so a complete box would not depreciate in value and be had for $50 down the line. 100 issues is a big milestone, so was 25, 50 and 75. I was wanting something more as a fan of the comics and tv series, something a bit more special, a fan appreciation. If these suggestions are impossible then its understandable, its business and I want to see the walking dead to its end. If this is what it takes fine, just give those who will be around for the end something to chew on.
Before you say that I am just picking the negative comments and ignoring the positive ones, as of this writing there are no positive comments on the Skybound site for the box set. Not one.
This comes on the heels of the announcement that 900 copies of the hardcover Compendium vol. 1 will be available at San Diego Comic Con at $100 a piece. Looks to be an expensive couple of weeks for Walking Dead fans.
