Wizard World Expands to Portland

It looks like Wizard World is betting big on Portland.

Portland has been without a major comic book convention for…well…ever.

Instead it has made due with a small dealer show and the ever-growing alternative convention, Stumptown Comics Fest.

In the meantime, Seattle’s Emerald City Comic Con has grown in size and popularity to become a destination-level event.

Now Portland is getting its own three-day con. Wizard World announced today that it is bringing its brand of pop-culture fandom to Portland in February. The three day convention will be at the Portland Convention center which has more than enough room to accomodate a large con.

So far only a few names have been released as guests, and the only comic creator is Greg Horn.

It will be interesting to see how a slick, corporate slanted show will fare in a city notorious for shunning corporate culture. On the other hand, Portland is rivaled only by New York and Los Angeles when it comes to comic creators and publishers, so there is a chance that the Portland show may take on a feel of its own.
