Paris in the 20th Century Page 13

My exact notes for panel 2 were: “A slightly older Charles in a foreign locale doing something exotic.” When Keri got this note she sent me a message asking what I meant. I replied, “You know….exotic.”

The Lt. Colonel in question was a real person and is best known for his involvement in the Battle of Tamsui. It was a rare French defeat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tamsui

Upper Volta is now known as Burkina Faso, but was French Upper Volta starting in 1896. This was four years before Ana was born. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Burkina_Faso

This is the first indication that things are not all rosy between Ana and her father.  As much as I want to explore that relationship, I think it is going to have to wait for the next comic.
