I cannot tell you how much back and forth Keri and I had about the first panel on this page. We had different ideas about what it should look like, what angle it should be “shot” from, and darn near everything else about it.
Lamantine started out as a joke. I hadn’t told Keri anything about the story before I gave it to her. All I would tell her is that there was cheese, a croissant, and a flaming manatee. I envisioned Ana’s airship as a slow and clumsy machine, but full of personality, much like the wonderful manatee of Florida. It wasn’t until after I had completed the script and sent it to her that she sent me this picture. Guess I wasn’t so original after all!
